Acceptable use policy
Publish only what you have the rights to, never harm people, and don’t pirate, defraud or attack the service. Books may deal with difficult subjects. What they may not do is break the law or hurt people.
1. What this policy covers
This policy applies to everyone who uses eboore.com or the Oria reading app: readers, authors, publishers, creators and institutions. It covers what you upload, publish, sell or post, and how you use the service. It is part of our terms of service.
2. Content that is not allowed
You may not upload, publish, sell or post:
- Work you don’t have the rights to: another person’s book or text, translations or audio recordings made without permission, or public-domain editions passed off as original.
- Sexual content involving minors, in any form. There are no exceptions. We remove it, close the accounts involved and report it to the authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
- Hateful or harassing content that attacks people because of who they are, or that targets private individuals.
- Content that promotes violence or terrorism, or gives instructions for causing serious harm.
- Deceptive content: fake reviews, misleading listings, impersonation of an author or publisher, or content made to scam readers.
- Malicious files: anything carrying malware or built to exploit a reader’s device.
- Anything illegal where it is published or sold, or anything that exposes readers or Eboore to serious legal, financial or reputational risk.
Books can deal with difficult subjects, including violence, sexuality, crime and grief. What we judge is whether a work breaks the rules above, not whether it is uncomfortable.
3. Conduct that is not allowed
- Piracy: copying, sharing or reselling books, or bypassing the protection on book files.
- Account abuse: sharing or selling accounts, using someone else’s account, or creating accounts in bulk.
- Payment fraud: stolen cards, chargeback abuse, money laundering, or buying your own books to inflate sales or royalties.
- Attacks on the service: probing for vulnerabilities without permission, breaking in, overloading our systems, or phishing our users.
- Scraping: automated collection of the catalogue, books or user information, including to train automated systems.
- Spam: unsolicited promotion in reviews, profiles or messages.
4. What we do about it
We review reports and investigate what we find ourselves. Depending on how serious and repeated a problem is, we may:
- ask you to fix a listing;
- remove content or stop selling a book;
- withhold royalties earned through a violation;
- suspend or close the accounts involved;
- report illegal activity to the authorities.
Where we can, we tell you what we did and why, and you can reply to care@eboore.com if you think we got it wrong.
5. Reporting a problem
If you see something that breaks this policy, including your own work sold without permission, tell us on the report abuse page.
