Privacy policy

We collect what we need to run your account, deliver your books and pay authors, and nothing for advertising. We never sell your information. You can delete your account from the Oria app at any time.

1. Who we are

Eboore LLC(“Eboore”, “we”) runs eboore.com, a marketplace where readers find, buy and read books and audiobooks and where authors and publishers sell them, and Oria, our reading app for iPhone, iPad and Android. This policy covers both. We are the controller of the personal information described here.

Contact: care@eboore.com, +1 (803) 414-1300 (WhatsApp), or Eboore LLC, 5111 Grace View Drive, Pineville, North Carolina, United States.

2. What we collect

Your account. Your name and email address, and whether your email is verified. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash by our sign-in system; nobody at Eboore can read it, and the Oria app never stores it. It keeps a sign-in session instead.

Your purchases. What you bought, when, the price and currency, and whether payment succeeded. Payments are handled by our payment providers (see section 4). We never receive your full card number. Providers send us a confirmation of each payment, which can include details such as a mobile-money number or the last digits of a card.

Your reading. Where you are in each book, so you can carry on from another device; the books on your shelf and wishlist; bookmarks, highlights and notes you make in the web reader; reviews you publish; and your progress through courses.

In the Oria app. Books you download, and your highlights, notes, bookmarks and reading statistics (reading time, streaks and goals), are kept on your device in an encrypted database. Today, highlights, notes and reading statistics made in the app stay on your device and are not sent to us. When you are signed in, the app sends us your reading position and your shelf so they follow your account.

Searches. What you search for on eboore.com, linked to your account when you are signed in.

Messages. A record of the emails we send you (for example receipts and password resets), and anything you write to us.

Technical information. Each sign-in session records the IP address and the browser or device it came from, so you and we can spot sessions that aren’t yours. Our servers keep ordinary request logs.

Authors, publishers and creators. Your public profile (name, biography, country, photo), the books and files you upload, sales and royalty records, and the details needed to pay you, which are held with our payout providers.

Institutions. If you read through a school, library or other institution, your membership, the seat assigned to you, and your progress in the titles it licenses.

What we don’t collect. We don’t collect your precise location, contacts, photos or advertising identifiers. Neither eboore.com nor Oria contains advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

3. How we use it

  • To run your account and deliver what you bought: sign-in, downloads, reading across devices, and restoring your place.
  • To take payments, keep accurate financial records and pay authors their royalties.
  • To keep the service secure and to prevent fraud, piracy and abuse.
  • To send you service emails: receipts, account and security messages, and password resets. If we ever send newsletters, we will ask first, and each one will carry an unsubscribe link.
  • To improve the catalogue with aggregate signals. For example, we show whether readers finish a book only once enough readers have opened it, and never in a way that identifies anyone.
  • To meet our legal obligations and to enforce our terms.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running your account and delivering purchases), our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention and aggregate improvements), legal obligation (financial records), and your consent where we ask for it.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with:

  • Payment providers (Stripe, Paystack, Flutterwave and Onafriq), to take payments, and to pay authors. Each processes payment details under its own privacy policy.
  • Service providers who run parts of the service for us under contract: email delivery (Resend), cloud storage and delivery of book files, and hosting for our servers and database.
  • Your institution, if you read through one. Its programme leads see progress on the titles it licenses, mostly as totals across readers, plus a roster view of each member’s progress.
  • Authors and publishers, who see sales and royalty figures for their own books.
  • The law: when we must comply with a legal obligation or a valid request from authorities, or to protect people’s safety and our rights.
  • A successor: if Eboore is reorganised or sold, your information would move with the service, under this policy, and we would tell you.

5. Where your information is processed

We are based in the United States, and our providers operate in several countries. Your information may be processed outside the country where you live. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for those transfers.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete it straight away, as described in section 8.

Orders are the exception, because they are part of our accounts and of the royalties we owe authors. We keep them after you leave, but detached from you. They are moved to a single shared “deleted reader” record with no name, email or sign-in, so they can’t be traced back to you or grouped together. The payment confirmations our providers sent us are kept with them as financial records, for as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Server logs are kept for a short period for security. Copies in backups are replaced on their normal cycle.

7. Your choices and rights

  • See and correct your account details in your account settings, or ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Delete your account at any time (section 8).
  • Object or restrict: ask us to stop a particular use of your information, or to limit it while a question is resolved.
  • Take your data with you: ask for a copy in a portable format.

Write to care@eboore.com. We answer within 30 days, and we may ask you to confirm your identity first. Depending on where you live (for example the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California), you may have further rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. We will never treat you differently for using any of these rights.

8. Deleting your account

In the Oria app, open your account settings and choose Delete account. You confirm with your password, and the deletion happens straight away. Otherwise, write to care@eboore.com from the address on your account.

When you delete your account:

  • On our servers, we delete your account and sign-in sessions, reading progress, notes, bookmarks, shelf, wishlist, reviews, search history and the record of emails we sent you, all in one step.
  • Your purchases can no longer be opened, and your orders are detached from you as described in section 6.
  • On the device, Oria then erases its encrypted database and its key, your downloaded books and cached covers, leaving the app as if newly installed. Anything that exists only on that device, such as highlights and notes made in the app, is lost. Oria tells you what will be lost and asks you to confirm before anything is deleted.
  • If the request fails, nothing is deleted, on the server or on your device, and you can try again.

Accounts that also publish books, belong to an institution, or have staff roles hold records other people rely on. For those, write to us and we will close the account with you.

9. Security

Everything between your device and our servers travels over encrypted connections. Passwords are stored only as hashes. Books you download to Oria are stored in an encrypted database on your device, and book files are delivered through time-limited protected links. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

10. Children

Eboore and Oria are for people aged 16 and over, and you must be at least 16 to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child under 16 has given us their information, write to care@eboore.com and we will delete it.

11. Cookies

eboore.com uses cookies that are needed for the site to work: they keep you signed in and protect your session. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies. When you pay, the payment provider’s own pages may set cookies of their own, under their policies. The Oria app does not use web cookies for tracking. It keeps only its sign-in session on your device.

12. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
