Chapter 4 75

  • Positive Affirmations for parents to their children

Introduction

Affirmations are the things you say to yourself to help you change your attitude or some other aspect of yourself.”

There are essentially two big factors working for you when you use affirmations.

1. Your words have power (Proverbs 18:21).

2. When you say something out loud your brain starts to try to move toward what you said.

Our subconscious mind feverishly looks for things it can systematize to make our lives easier and more efficient.

That’s how habits are created and why they are so powerful. When you say “I can’t do it,” your brain seeks to confirm this and systematize it away so you can use your conscious mind to solve bigger problems. When you say, “I am courageous!” your brain also seeks to confirm this. Gears start turning in the background to begin to make those things true.

Positive thinking skills often start with positive-self talk and affirmations, which means using the voice in your head to say positive thoughts about yourself or a situation.

Positive thinking is a powerful tool that can improve your health, help you manage stress, overcome challenges, and make better choices. Everyone can benefit from improving their positive thinking and self-talk skills! The idea is that by changing your thinking, you can better manage your emotions and your actions.

Even at an early stage, children need to learn to be positive about themselves.

Positive affirmations can lift moods even during the darkest moments.

1. There is no one better to be than myself.

2. I am enough.

3. I get better every single day.

4. I am an amazing person.

5. I can work through my problems.

6. Today I am a leader.

7. I forgive myself for my mistakes.

8. My challenges help me grow.

9. I am perfect just the way I am.

10. My mistakes help me learn and grow.

Kids and young adults can use a positive affirmation list by

  • Reading the words to themselves or out loud

  • Write them down on a board and add some decorations, then hang them on the walls of their homes.

However, biblical affirmations are more powerful. Biblical affirmations are based on truth about what God says and thinks about us.

God spoke these over us, His children, and we can simply claim them for ourselves. You can go from saying, “I can” to “I am.”

These affirmations can be taken wholeheartedly and claimed over yourself. Ideally, you’d read each one out loud over yourself everyday. In addition, you should review the scripture on each one and meditate on that one.

“I am” affirmations are not to be confused with “I AM.” We are never declaring that we are God or anything like that.

Instead, we’re claiming the promises in the word of God and simply claiming what He’s already called us.

1. I am adopted into God’s Family (Ephesians 1:5, Romans 8:14-19, Galatians 4:5-7, Psalm 27:10 )

2. I am a child to the King of Kings (1 Peter 2:9, Galatians 4:5-7, John 1:12, Romans 8:14-19)

3. I am passionately loved (Romans 8:38, Psalm 56:8, Isaiah 43:4)

4. I am a new person in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17, Isaiah 43:18-19)

5. I am not weary (Galatians 6:9, 2 Thessalonians 3:13, Matthew 11:28, Psalm 94: 19)

6. I can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13, Deuteronomy 20:4, 1 Corinthians 15:57)

7. I am remarkably made (Psalm 139:14, Psalm 139:1-24, Genesis 1:27)

8. I am extraordinary (Ephesians 2:10, Genesis 1:27)

9. I am provided for (Matthew 6:30-35, 2 Peter 1:3, Deuteronomy 20:4)

10. I am valuable (1 Peter 1:18-19, John 3:16, Psalm 56:8)

Simply writing this out as a resource for yourself will make a huge difference in your mornings, your day and your life generally.
