Introduction

The stage of a person's life that is referred to as youth is the early years of a person’s life beginning from teenager stage upward, it is the stage where the person is still very young and active, a youth will be able to do more physical and mental work than a person who is old. Youth have more chances, time and privileges but with little or no experience in life because they just started out. In this book the author has highlighted some challenges that youth face in life and also listed out many jobs and businesses that any youth can start with little or no capital, and because the author is a youth he was able to write this book personally from experience. The author is a youth who has suffered poverty, rejection, failure, disappointment, maltreatment, temptations and addiction but fortunately have been able to overcome all and is doing well in life. This book will also teach some morals and some ways that youth can sustain success.

Dedication

I dedicate this book to all the youths struggling and hustling to be successful, I dedicate it to all the youths that are working genuinely to earn a living without bringing problems to their country and family. As a youth who has been faced by many challenges, I understand the challenges that youths encounter, therefore my hope, wish and prayer is that every youth is able to scale through life without losing their life, and be able to achieve their dreams.

I dedicate this book to God Almighty who is merciful enough to look after youths and sparing the life of youths despite their unhealthy lifestyles.

Foreword

Nowadays people find themselves in the midst of personal, social, and global change, people now experience more fear, more anxiety, and hopelessness like never before. teen violence, different crimes, absence of spiritual values, lack of job security and high rate of suicide cases. All these sad events and happenings around the world mostly have the majority of youth involvement, this is part of the reason that the author took out time to write this book to impact morals, values, skills and business ideas on youths around the world. Although it was written for youths, the book can be helpful to everybody irrespective of age, religion, location and gender.

CHAPTER ONE

CHAPTER ONE

MEANING AND STAGES

I have been opportune to have talks with young people, and each time I do so, I get to entertain their opinion as to who a youth is.

On one occasion, one of them told me that a youth is a person who is able to do extraordinary things that an older person cannot do. Do you agree with that? For me, I do, and I will make you understand my opinion subsequently as you read on.

Now, back to where we were. Another opinion from another person showed that a youth is a young person. Now, what do you think of this one? I do agree with this as well.

People have different perspectives on youth ideology. That is why people have different meanings for the concept.

Now who is a youth?

A young person who is over 18 years of age can simply be referred to as a youth. The word youth is sometimes misunderstood by many people. Some conclude that as long as a person is still single, he or she is a youth, but this is the wrong conclusion because not every young person out there has the reasoning for marriage. Some time ago, I heard a lady say that 'marriage is not for everyone'. This is true because some people are eager to get married, while others do not care much about marriage.

Marriage or singlehood is not supposed to be a yardstick to measure youthfulness. Some people also believe that any grown-up person is a youth, which is also not true. Like I said earlier, there are many meanings and thoughts concerning youth in different parts of the world.

In my view, a youth is a young person from the age of 18 to 39, married or single. In different parts of the world, youth are taken into consideration before making laws and budgets because they are the future leaders. Youth are the hope and future of every nation.

In some parts of the world, youth are neglected, and some political leaders want to remain in power forever, which is not supposed to be so. The reluctance of the older people to leave some positions of power brings about a lackadaisical attitude by the youth in nation-building. In some countries today, the youth have graduated from tertiary institutions with excellent grades; some have married and become parents, yet they are deprived of their rights to become leaders or even play important roles in their father's land.

The saying that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow then looks like a mirage in their sight. Till today, there are still countries where some people who were in power 30 years ago are still in power, yet these countries do not practice a monarchical system of government. They just have desperate leaders who want to remain in power forever.

When you take a look at it, you will discover that the children who were born at that time when those leaders took power are already in their 30s, and they have been neglected and robbed of their rights.

To further explain the subject matter of youth, I want to emphasize that marriage, job, dress, size, and looks are not things that determine if a person is a youth or not. A person can be married and still identify as a youth. A person can do any type of job and still be a teenager. A person can dress in any type of clothing and still be a youth. A person may be fat or slim, but that does not stop them from being a youth. A person can look older than his age but not stop being a youth. A person's youthfulness can only end when he or she grows older.

A youth may be a young person with little or no property, but there is a surety that such a person will make it. Though there are some youth with little or no experience in a particular area, many have so much to offer. Every youth has an untapped talent. Every youth has hidden gifts and skills within them that can only be discovered through self- realization. Many are lucky to discover themselves early, while others may take some time. But it is never too late to discover yourself and work on it. No person was born empty; therefore, every person has hidden potential within them.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT STAGES

There are different stages in the life of every youth; stages in this context refer to episodes in the life of a youth.

All the stages are different and come with different lessons and experiences. Some stages have the youth saddled with fewer responsibilities and more freedom, while others have greater responsibilities.

Some of the stages in the life of a youth include:

The stage in which a young person is squatting with his or her uncle, auntie, or siblings At this stage, the person may encounter some challenges or maltreatment. This stage is difficult for many youths because everyone always wants to live on their own terms and conditions. Any person in this situation must not regret anything, as it is only a stage in life that will not last forever. The person must work hard to be able to live alone. Living alone does not only require money; it also requires knowledge, maturity, and money. This is another thing that youth should take note of.

Another stage is the stage in which a young person is schooling; at this stage, the person may be away from home but is still under the care and sponsorship of the family. Youths in this stage should understand that human wants are endless and insatiable, so they must work, even if it's part-time jobs or holiday jobs, so as to meet some of their needs.

Another stage is the stage at which a young person is living away from home. At this stage, a person is living all by herself or himself with little or no support from family. This is an important stage for every youth, and every youth must not skip this before marriage because this stage will prepare you for the life ahead. This may be the stage where many

youths will learn many lessons, including morals, self- discipline, budgeting, and planning. In this stage, youths will enjoy respect, freedom, and opportunities, but they will have to provide almost everything for themselves. You will have to work hard to pay your rent, feed and clothe yourself, and also save up for your goals and future.

The story keeps going.
